Thomas Waerner in the lead at the Femund race
Thomas Waerner is in the lead in the Femund Race, a day into the race. The race started with crowded streets on Røros and fierce wind in the trails.
«What would you do without coca cola,» Wærner posted from the trail along the way. He have had some trouble with sickness, but is very optimistic, according to his frequent Facebook posts.
Saturday afternoon Thomas leads by just over 1 kilometer. Thomas The Viking Waerner is a part of the Qrill pet mushing team and won last years Femund race. He is one of the big favorites to copy that victory. Runners up are Barbara Inauen and Petter Carlsson. Barbara is 1,4 kilometers behind, and Carlsson follows with a gap of 4,5 kilometers.
Despite the heavy wind and snow, a lot of spectators had traveled to Kjerkgata to bring their start to the F650, F200 and juniors on Friday morning. In the evening it was the F450 drivers' turn to start. A total of over 200 was starting the Femund race this year.
This year there was only one accident in the famous curve at the top of Kjerkgata. Nina Wivesvoll Vollen from Rendalen sports team was unlucky and fell, but did not lose the dogs and was not hurt.
