Beargrease 2022
The 2022 John Beargrease Marathon is on!
The Beargrease Marathon runs 300 miles on the Northshore of Lake Superior, through the untouched wilderness of the Superior National Forest.
Every year – the trail breakers prepare and mark the trail before the race starts. Just like the mushers, they get to discover the incredible wildlife, because the dogs are not the only four legged animals on the trail…
The Lead
The veteran musher Nathan Schroeder is number one into the first checkpoint. Ryan Redington comes in second – with a very energetic team.
Rookie Wade Marrs
Wade Marrs, a renowned musher from Alaska, has come to Minnesota to race the Beargrease for the very first time. He is keeping it mellow and comes in to the first checkpoint as number 11.
Not only dogs on the trail
The trails has so far been fantastic. The terrain is up and down and the mushers go through the Sawtooth Mountains, as far as that goes. Plenty of snow and plenty of wildlife.
There as already been spotted several moose and three coyotes were out on devil’s track lake taking a peek at the teams on a mission.
Below some visuals from the start in Duluth!
