Dramatic night in Femund race: Monsen gives in, Sorlie in front
The second night of this years Femund Race has been a dramatic one. The famous adventurer Lars Monsen had to scratch the race, due to a knee injury. This was a big disappointment for Monsen, a three time Iditarod runner.
“Lars Monsen is not the type to easily give in, so this was a big disappointment. He told me that he had an accident some time ago and his knee was hurt,” says Nina Skramstad, covering the live broadcast of the race.
The Femund Race was the goal of the season for Monsen.
At the same time two times Iditarod-champion Robert Sørlie advanced to first place. At 10 a.m. Sunday morning he passed Birgitte Ness live on television.
“Særlie is now in a very good position. Roberts team looks stronger than the rest. We may have seen a winning move live on tv”, said experts Bruce Lee and Greg Heister in the tv studio.
“Speed wins races and I would very much like to be in Robert Sørlies position right now”, was Dallas Seaveys comment from his live position.
At 10 a.m. Sunday morning Sørlie is 1 minute and 30 seconds ahead of Næss, and 38 minutes ahead of Thomas Wærner.
