QPAWS Champion Point System

For the 2020 season, Qrill Paw Arctic World Series consist of four races starting in January with Beargrease (Minnesota, USA) and Femundsløpet (Norway) and then in February, Volga Quest (Russia) and the finale Iditarod (Alaska, USA) taking place in March.

All mushers and their dog teams entering in each race are automatically taking part in the 2020 Qrill Paw World Arctic Series competition (QPAWS), simply by entering and finishing any of these races.

Mushers can of course enter with their dog teams to participate in as many of the QPAWS races as they desire. However, at least for the 2020 season, only the two races in which a musher earned the greatest amount of points will count towards the total standing in the QPAWS competition at the end. With the four races in the Series for the 2020 season a level playing field is hereby ensured whether or not mushers are in a position to travel much internationally this season! Enabling and supporting mushers to travel nationally and internationally is an important part of the mission with the Series in the future.

The 2021 competition will involve many more races in addition to the four now in play! All races are assigned a paw-status based on race course, distance and competition. The number of paws assigned to a race determines the amount of points available for mushers and their teams to earn in the race.

Volga Quest, Beargrease and Femundsløpet are 5-paw races and in each of these races the winner will be awarded 600 points. Points awarded then decrease in intervals of 50 points for the top-3 finishers, meaning second place finishers earns 550 points, 3rd place finishers 500 points, while teams thereafter, placing 4th through 30th, are awarded from 400 points down to 10 points.

Iditarod being the finale there is more point-value to be earned here than in the other three races. The Iditarod Champion will be awarded 1000 points, 2nd place 940 points, and 3rd place 880 points while 4th through 30th again from 700 points to 20 points.

The 2020 Qrill Paw Arctic World Series Champion will be the musher and team of dogs with the most points total earned. In addition to a competition based on placement, there is also a competition based on dog care. More on that soon! As well as… what exactly are mushers in the competition to win with Qrill Paw Arctic Series? Stay tuned for that reveal!
