The Iditarod 2022 is ON!
The Last Great Race - Celebrating 50 runs in 2022
On March 5th, the Iditarod began its 50th anniversary, with a ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage, Alaska.
The 50th running has a more traditional setup compared to the 49th last year, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the race to introduce the “Iditarod Golden Trail Loop” route. Here we saw mushers and their teams travel to the ghost town of Flat before retracing their steps and finishing in Willow.
This year’s edition of the race will travel the Northern route all the way to Nome and the iconic burled arch.

From snowy to sunny
The start of The Iditarod 2022, could offer both sunny and snowy weather. The re-start in Willow, was in contrast to the ceremonial start, luckily sunny which made a beautiful backdrop for the 50th anniversary of Iditarod.
17 women and 32 men took off from the starting line, Sunday 6th of March. This year we have competitors from six different countries, including six former Iditarod champions!

Rookies 2022
This year year we have 13 rookies, one of them being Hanna Lyrek. She is the youngest musher participating in this years event. Hanna is also the only one traveling from Norway with all her dogs. Her team has been training in the north of Norway, above the arctic circle. This means that there’s no sun during wintertime. Will she perhaps be rookie for the year?
Nothing is set as Iditarod never ceases to surprise. We now wish all the 49 mushers and their teams health and safety on their journey to Nome.
