Demtchenko new champion of Big Volga Quest

The Russian musher Vyacheslav Demtchenko passed the finish line in Shiryaevo at 9:32 local time thursday morning.

(Volga, Russia)

At that point there was only one musher still in the trail. The young Arseny Tyuryumin arrived almost five hours behind the winner. All other mushers who started the race, have give in at this years Volga 550.

While passing the finish line, Demtchenko was received by the Qrill paws broadcasting team, Dallas Seavey, Greg Heister and Bruce Lee.

“How is it to become a champion?”, Greg asked.

“I dont now yet. I event had the chance to check my time”, laughed the always smiling Demtchenko.

Vyacheslav Demtchenko is an experienced musher and is running his own big kennel of huskies. He is often referred to as the Russian version of the Norwegian Robert Sorlie, fresh champion of The Femund Race.

The last 24 hours of the race, Demtchenko and Tyuryumin changed to be in the lead of the Volga Quest. The two mushers where number one and two also last year. All the other mushers in the long distance 550 has scratched in this years race.
